Regardless of how old you are, I am sure your mother nags. If you would look at the order of the alphabets, 'n' comes after the 'm', and so it is probably very natural for a Mum to Nag! Our mothers nag at us to eat our vegetables at age 2, wash our hands before eating at 5, to study and watch less tv at 12, about staying out late at night at 16 and what's more, to find a partner quickly at 25 or even at 35! It doesn't stop there...at 40, mums nag about the lack of grand children...and the list goes on.

The function of the amplifier is to reproduce a soft voice to a loud clear voice. In the Old Testament age, Moses did not have an amplifier; how could he speak to the Israelites? “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:13-14). When Jesus was speaking to a big group of people, he did not have any amplifier as well. “The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; …And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children” (Matthew 13:1-3a, 14:21) How was Jesus able to speak to all of them? The Bible recorded that they were able to hear Him clearly. by Sally Soong
Thanks be to GOD that I finally had the opportunity to share my testimony to my church, hopefully to touch the hearts of many unsaved souls who read this sharing. Throughout all these years, I must admit that GOD has been merciful, forgiving and generous in His provisions in various stages of my life. I believe He will continue to do so as long as I pledge my loyalty to Him. As our church celebrates another anniversary in July, it also reminds me of another year of safety back home in Singapore for me. by Peter and Alison Foo
Five years! Yes, five years have passed. I finally struggled through this part-time course, the Bachelor of Engineering [Mech.] Degree from Nanyang Technological University. Recollecting the past, it seemed like things just happened yesterday. During this period, I should say it was not a smooth road to travel without God’s strength and grace. Praise God for that! I remember that in year 1996, when I attended the admission presentation at NTU for the Pioneer Batch of Part-time for Bachelor Engineering Degree, the number of people applying for this course awed me. Despite the overwhelming response, I was selected, which was something I had not expected. I believe that it was God’s will for me. Thank God that He also granted me the sponsorship from my company. “The Baptist State Convention in North Carolina will vote in November on a plan to share power between moderates and conservatives. (“Moderates” reject the infallibility of Scripture and other fundamental doctrines.) The general board has over whelming approved the plan, but delegates must approve it in November. Under the plan, the top vote getter for each office plan will serve on year and the runner-up will serve the following year. The plan will take effect for six trial years, unless messengers make it indefinite. “People in the pew are tired of fighting,” said the Rev. Greg Mathis of Hendersonville, a former convention president and a conservative. The plan’s backers want to avoid a divorce such as those that have torn the Virginia and Texas state conventions into two se parate organisations.”

Back in the 70s, when I first came to know the Lord, my happy family environment was overturned. My mother was greatly affected. She strongly opposed my new found Christian faith. She forbade me to have any contact with Christianity. She was suspiscious to every book I read, so much so reading God’s word or Christian literature openly at home was simply asking for trouble! Sundays were trying days for my young faith. I knew it would break her heart if I went to church against her will. But God’s word challenged me to go and to trust in Him, and my Christian friends also encouraged me. And going I did, facing many consequences when I got home. Going home after church service was quite a nervous experience for me, not for fear of punishment. It was something else. But all this while I felt very sorry that my Christian faith ahd brought much unhappiness to my family, especially my mother. The constant thought of saddening my mother who had to take care of six children, including 2 subnormal siblings, almost overwhelmed me to the point of giving up the faith! At times I started to doubt if the God of the Bible was indeed real, as it claimed to be. by Bethany Khng
On June 4th, our f amily spent two lovely days in the Orchard Hotel, a 5-star hotel along Orchard Road. Nathaniel had won the complimentary voucher in a music competition organised by his music school. Strolling around the shopping arcade, we chanced upon a shop called ‘The Nail Shop’. It specializes in grooming nails, that is, finger and toe nails for a price of $30 per treatment. Strange, we thought, what sensible folks would spend their hard-earned money to groom their nails? But we were wrong! Through the glass panels, we could see at least two ‘beauticians’ working on their customer’s toenails! Business must have been pretty brisk to be able to pay for the rental of a shop in such a posh place besides the salaries of those ladies paid to pamper their feet. by Pastor John Khng
"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them." - Hebrews 7:25 (An annual report for the year ending 1998) The year 1998 was a tough year for many of us and also for our church. We have just settled down in our new premises, and were looking to the Lord for His direction on how to build up the ministry. Praise the Lord that slowly but surely the work has taken root and shape. The theme, “Christ, Our Lord” was most appropriate for our church in her infancy year. The preaching of our specially invited guest preachers from other fundamental local churches refreshed many of us. We had several preachers/missionaries who took turns to preach on the 4th Sunday of each month at our morning service. Another blessing is that we enjoyed sweet Christian fellowship with these like-minded servants of God. Dear Diary,
Monday, 8 June ’98 11.15a.m. At long last we are on our way to Genting Highlands for a 4-day Church Camp! Thought we would never make it. The air-con system of our ‘old reliable’ Toyota pulled a monkey wrench on us and ‘conk’ out on Sunday morning! Even mechanics have a day off on the Lord’s day. We have no choice but to bring it to the garage for repair this morning at 9.00. Trust the mechanic to offer his helpful advice. ‘Going to Genting Highlands, ah? Better check and service as well. If break down, siong, man.’ Two hours of repair later and $150 poorer, we are on our way to Genting Highlands. |
