Messages on Revival
Personal Revival
by Pastor John Khng
Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 7:14
2Ch 7:12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
2Ch 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2Ch 7:15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
2Ch 7:16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
Introduction:
We can have revival. It has to begin with each one of us. We must be willing to pay the price of revival by meeting the conditions stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14, our text for this message on Personal Revival.

I. The Meaning of Revival
Revival means to come back to life, to return to consciousness, to return to vigour from a state of neglect. A revival is return of the Christian from backsliding. Revival is a new beginning of obedience to Almighty God.
II. The Need for Personal Revival
III. The Prescription for Personal Revival – 2 Chron. 7:14
I am sure that when Torrey said that a revival will surely come to the whole church as a result of a few persons getting right with God, and going all out to win souls for the Lord, he knew revival is not something that can be produced by man’s effort. The reason is that we cannot work up a revival. It must be heaven sent. But I can guarantee you this much, that the few persons who pledge together to pray for revival, will be revived and as many as join them will also get revived, If the whole church get involved in revival praying then revival will come to the whole church. This is bases on what our text says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – 2 Chron. 7:14
Again we must be reminded that revival is not a work of men. It is a work of God. We cannot force God into sending a revival, but we can wait on Him to send one in His own good timing. We need to pray, serve faithfully, witness as the Lord leads and wait patiently until revival comes to us from God.
IV. The Results of Personal Revival – 2 Chron. 7:14
A. “then will I hear from heaven,”
B. “and will forgive their sin,”
C. “and will heal their land.”
Have you experienced a revival before? If you really wants a revival, it has to start with you and I first.

I. The Meaning of Revival
Revival means to come back to life, to return to consciousness, to return to vigour from a state of neglect. A revival is return of the Christian from backsliding. Revival is a new beginning of obedience to Almighty God.
II. The Need for Personal Revival
- A) Because of our backsliding
- B) Because of our lack of spiritual fruits
III. The Prescription for Personal Revival – 2 Chron. 7:14
- A) “If my people, which are called by my name” – Revival is for Christians. The unsaved needs salvation, not revival.
- B) “Shall humble themselves” – Not somebody forcing us into submission, but we ourselves voluntarily bowing ourselves in contrite submission, acknowledging that we need God.
- C) “and pray” – Prayer precedes and bears along Revival. We cannot have revival without prayer because prayer brings us to God, who alone can give revival. True revival comes from God and not from man. Revival has to be sent down from heaven.
- D) “and seek my face” – Why do we desire revival? To get results or to get close to God? Some smart people among us may say the answer is both. Here we have in our text that the seeking of God’s face is placed first before the promised results.
- E) “and turn from their wicked ways” – Repent from our sins. Turning from sins and Turning to God. True repentance leads us to turn to God for salvation and deliverance.
- F) How to start a revival? Gypsy Smith was once asked how to start a revival. He answered: “Go home and lock yourself in your room, kneel down in the middle of your floor. Draw a chalk mark all around yourself and ask God to start that revival inside that chalk mark. When He has answered your prayer, the revival will be on.”
- G) Torrey’s prescription for Revival
“I can give a prescription that will bring revival to any church or community or any city on earth.”
- First, let a few Christians (they need not be many) get thoroughly right with God themselves. This is the prime essential. If this is not done, the rest that I am going to say will come to nothing.
- Second, let them bind themselves together in a prayer group to pray for a revival until God opens the heavens and comes down.
- Third, let them put themselves at the disposal of God for Him to use as He sees fit in winning others to Christ. That is all.
This is sure to bring a revival to any church or community. I have given this prescription around the world. It has been taken many churches and many communities, and in no instance has it ever failed, and it cannot fail.”
