Messages on the Second Coming of Christ
Be You Also Ready
by Pastor John Khng
Scripture Reading: Matthew 24:44, 25:13-31; Luke 19:12-27; 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
Mat 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Mat 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Act 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
Act 1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
“Be You Also Ready” because our Lord Jesus Christ will come again at any moment – Matthew 24:42 to 44
Introduction: How many of you were preparing for the rapture to take place at 6 pm yesterday evening? During lunch, I told my wife, Beth and my daughter, Anna Joy to change to a better looking clothing because we are going to get rapture up at 6 pm. I told them I am going to get my hair cut before 6 pm. Beth looked at me and said “Don’t talk nonsense”. Anna Joy looked at me with a puzzled look. I did get my hair cut but it was at 6:30 pm – I was not taken in by this false teaching of setting date on Christ’s coming:
JUDGMENT DAY on May 21, 2011 – date setting by Harold Camping
I. Watch for the Coming of Christ – Mt 24:42-44; 25:13
II. Work for the Coming of Christ – Mt 25:14-31; Lk 19:12-27
III. Wait for the Coming of Christ – 1 Thessolonians 1:9-10
Are You Ready - Daily Bread April 15, 1997 — by Henry G. Bosch
A teacher told his class that he would be going away for several weeks, and he offered to give a prize to the student whose desk he found in the best order when he came back. But he didn’t tell them what day he would return. Because the prize was big, each child was determined to get it, including a little girl whose desk was normally quite messy. Her classmates jeered, “Mary, you’ll never win. Your desk is never neat.” “Oh, I plan to clean it the first of every week from now on.” “But,” someone said, “suppose he comes at the end of the week?” “Then I’ll clean it every morning.” “But,” another classmate persisted, “He may come at the end of the day.” For a moment the child was silent in thought. Then she said decidedly, “I know what I’ll do. I’ll just keep it clean!”
If we want to receive our Lord’s approval at His return, we must always be ready. Jesus did not tell us to “get ready,” but rather to “be ready” (Mt. 24:44). We are to live constantly in a state of spiritual preparedness, anticipating the moment when He will appear and ask us to give account of our stewardship. Are you ready for His return?
Jesus could come at any time - so be ready all the time!

JUDGMENT DAY on May 21, 2011 – date setting by Harold Camping
- Articles from Internet AFP News – 19 hours ago, May 22, 2011 and Straits Times, May 22, 2011 http://sg.news.yahoo.com/apocalypse-almost-rapture-world-tenterhooks-013013053.html
- “Mr Camping, who makes programmes in 48 languages, boasts tens of thousands of followers across the globe, with radio stations in South Africa, Russia and Turkey. After 70 years of studying the Bible, he claims to have developed a system that uses mathematics to interpret prophesies hidden in it. He says the world will end on 21 May, because that will be 722,500 days from 1 April AD33, which he believes was the day of the Crucifixion. The figure of 722,500 is important because you get it by multiplying three holy numbers (five, 10 and 17) together twice. "When I found this out, I tell you, it blew my mind," he said.
- Recent events, such as earthquakes in Japan, New Zealand and Haiti, are harbingers of impending doom, he says, as are changing social values. "All the stealing, and the lying, and the wickedness and the sexual perversion that is going on in society is telling us something," he says. "So too is the gay pride movement. It was sent by God as a sign of the end."
I. Watch for the Coming of Christ – Mt 24:42-44; 25:13
- A. Watch because Christ could come any time – we do not know when Christ would come; Imminent (near, at hand, likely to occur at any moment) coming of Christ – Mat 24:42
- B. Watch because Christ could come suddenly – Eg of Noah’s time when the flood came suddenly (Mt 24:36-39) and eg of like a thief coming to break into a house – Mat 24:43; 1 Th 5:2, 3
- C. Watch because Christ could come surprisingly - when you are least expecting Him – Mat 24:44
II. Work for the Coming of Christ – Mt 25:14-31; Lk 19:12-27
- A. Work because we are Responsible for What we Received – Mt 25:14; Lk 19:13
- B. Work because we will Need to Give Account of What we do with What we Received – Mt 25:19; Lk 19:15
- C. Work because we want to be Among the Good and Faithful Servants – Mt 25:21, 23; Lk 19:17, 19
III. Wait for the Coming of Christ – 1 Thessolonians 1:9-10
- A. Turning, Serving and Waiting – Life of a Christian
- B. Watching, Working and Waiting – Life of a Christian
- C. Used to say wait, watch and work – now is watch, work and wait
- D. Some are waiting but not watching and working.
- E. Keep busy and wait – “Occupy Till I Come” – Lk 19:13
- F. Wait – present tense – keep on waiting – waiting expectantly – blessed hope – looking forward to our deliverer, Jesus who delivered us from the wrath to come”
