The Bible Way to Heaven

Jason was invited to church to attend a Friend Sunday Gospel Meeting by Andrew, one of his best friends. The pastor at the end of preaching his message gave an invitation, “Those who would like to know about how to get saved and go to heaven, please raise your hand!”
Jason was a young man who had just started working in an engineering company. He often asked himself, “What is the meaning of life? What will happen to me after death? Am I ready to meet God?”
Just then, he decided to raise his hand. There were a few other hands raised. The pastor prayed for them. After that, he said, “Raising your hand does not save you, only Jesus can save you. Please stay back to learn more about Jesus.”
His friend, Andrew was one of the counsellors in the church. The pastor directed him to Jason after the meeting, “Please help your friend to know about Jesus and how He came to be our Saviour.” Andrew noticed Jason’s troubled look and asked, “Hey, dude! What’s on your mind?”
Jason sighed, “Although I’ve lived a decent life, but deep down I know I’m not perfect. I’ve made mistakes. What if God isn’t pleased with me?”
Andrew opened the Bible and gently said, “Jason, the Bible tells us the truth about this. It says, ‘For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God’ (Romans 3:23). That includes you, me, everyone. Sin separates us from God.”
Jason nodded slowly. Andrew continued, “And sin has a penalty. ‘For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord’ (Romans 6:23). Death isn’t just physical – it’s eternal separation from God.”
Jason’s eyes widened. “That sounds hopeless.”
Andrew smiled. “But here’s the good news. God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty. ‘While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us’ (Romans 5:8). He took our punishment on the cross.”
Jason leaned forward. “So salvation is something I must earn?”
“No,” Andrew replied. “It’s a gift. ‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast’ (Ephesians 2:8–9). You can’t earn it by being good. You simply receive it.”
Jason whispered, “But how do I receive it?”
Andrew opened to Mark 1:15: ‘Repent ye, and believe the gospel.’ He explained, “Repentance means turning from sin and agreeing with God that you need His forgiveness. Then, put your faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.”
Jason thought for a moment. “So, if I truly believe, what will happen?”
Andrew read Romans 10:9: ‘If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’ He added, “And John 1:12 says, ‘As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.’”
Tears filled Jason’s eyes. “That means even me?”
Andrew nodded. “Yes, because ‘whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved’ (Romans 10:13). That includes you.”
Right there in the church, Jason bowed his head and prayed, “Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins. I believe you died for me on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day. I receive you as my personal Saviour. Forgive me of my sins and save me. Help me to live faithfully for you from now on. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.”
Andrew placed a hand on his shoulder. “Welcome to God’s family, Jason. You’ve just begun the greatest journey – the way to heaven.”
