From the Pastor's Heart

God gave us a verse in the Bible to assure us of His blessings, as we embarked on planting our second church in Singapore. Psalm 126:3 has been a great encouragement ever since. It reads, ‘The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.’ Like Israel, we can look back and rejoice over all the great things God in His mercy had done for us. 

The first thing we praise the Lord for is that He gave us a wonderful group of people. On March 7th, 1993, we held our first morning service and a total of 55 adults and children attended. This was far beyond our expectation. Praise the Lord for a good beginning. Second, we would like to praise the Lord for the salvation of souls. Among the more than ten souls saved were three elderly mothers of our church members. Third, there were two baptism services in which eight people were baptised in obedience to our Saviour’s command. Fourth, Mount Calvary Baptist Church was registered on July 21st, 1994. Praise the Lord for answered prayers. Fifth, the Lord has supplied our every need as a church. He has provided through the faithful giving of His people. Sixth, our application to buy a 10-seater mini bus was approved although many people told us that only churches with more than ten full-time workers are eligible to own a private mini bus. The Lord opened the door for us. Last but not least, the Lord has raised up many co-workers and prayer partners to serve together with us in this new ministry.

As we celebrate our first church anniversary, it is needful to emphasize that our church’s foundation is Jesus Christ, our Lord (1Cor.3:11-15). We are saved to serve. We have the right foundation in Christ so let us build on this foundation, gold, silver and precious stones. May our ministry be one that is approved of God both now and when we stand before the judgement seat of Christ?
