by Lee Jia En Time certainly flies. As cliché as that may sound, I have never imagined that my 3 years in Polytechnic would have gone by so quickly. Sometimes as I look back to the day I first entered Ngee Ann to pursue the Engineering Common Programme (ECP) course, I cannot help but feel that God has been blessing me so much throughout this whole new journey. Today, I have graduated with my diploma! I grew up in this church and it has always been comforting to know how much God has been with all of us, especially the youths. Watching how each and every one of us move from one stage to another, emerging stronger, bigger & taller; I know God has been good to us and as He has promised, “The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us: (1 King 8:57)”. But most importantly, I have grown to learn that God has a plan for us and we should continually put all our faith and trust in Him. In the first semester as a freshman, ECP was a generic engineering course and we would only choose a specialized course to major in for the rest of our Polytechnic education during the last semester of the second year. I went into this with the intention of being granted a place to pursue a course in Aerospace engineering. However, as you may have already guessed, I failed to get into my first choice. Instead, I was posted to Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE). Disappointment may have been a convenient emotion to have but surprisingly, I was unusually optimistic. It felt like God had placed me in this course and it was not as though he had forgotten about me. The fact that He was with me in my life was not exactly apparent but time unraveled this heartwarming truth. During my last year in Ngee Ann, I was supposed to choose my specialization and Aerospace Electronics was one of the choices! Without hesitation, I put that as my first choice and prayed to God hoping that I would get in. When the posting results came out, I was overjoyed that I got into the Aerospace option and also the final year project (FYP) choice that I wanted! I thank God and told myself that it was a sign from Him that might guide me in the future. I felt that God has been gracious and good to me as the group of friends that I mixed with didn’t really like studying, and so slowly I got a little influenced. However, He made me realize in time that I had to study hard and I was blessed with good grades for all my exams and did well for FYP. My advice for those going into tertiary studies, “Start working hard from the first day you enter poly. Never ever start in the 2nd or 3rd year as by then, it may be too late. Lastly, commit every decision that you’ve to make, to the LORD. He’ll carry you through!” 3 years is a long time though it feels otherwise. AMEN.
